Drumroll... I'm announcing something new that I am doing for 2023: I am launching my own Substack newsletter!
When I was at the Erma Bombeck conference, I met so many writers who were moving to Substack where they could have a personal, one-on-one experience with their readers. Substack is a wonderful reading experience - you can find so many world-class writers there - like Cheryl Strayed, my fav! - and connect with them and hear them read their own words even!
My new Substack newsletter (world-class, as well, naturally) will be a combination of all things: laughter, sadness, kickassness, falling down and getting back-upness. It will be excerpts from my mom book - about grief and how biking and nature heals. It will also be some of the tough stuff I have had to face in the last year.
I also promise some funny shite involving Maple on occasion.
Mostly, I’m ready to write a little uncensored - not tied to a business, but truly from my heart. I often share my mom essays here, but I also want to share some of the healing I’ve done since starting over. I’m finally ready to share that part of my story.
Now. Don’t expect a Y&R rendition - BUT! - I want to tell you about the things that helped me heal. Like the day I realized I was waiting on someone to tell me it was ok to get on with it... and it finally landed: I was waiting on me.
In the last year, so many women helped me get through by sharing their stories with me. I never felt alone - even though many days I was alone. It was like a sisterhood that scooped me up. Perhaps it’s my turn to share my story and help others. Be it with starting over, losing a loved one, or biking (in the pouring rain!).
The MiGirl newsletter will stay the same and cover women's events, pink hats with audacious faux fur balls, and places to show up for hiking and wine. My Substack, on the other hand, will focus entirely on my personal writing.
With Substack, you can comment and like and chat. In addition, newsletters can be listened to in audio form. (Yes - you may even hear my voice, lol!) The app is set up for both paid and free subscribers. I am planning on once-a-week posts - 2 posts a month for all subscribers and then 2 more posts for paid subscribers.
I would love your support (and eyeballs) as I move forward into this next level of my writing. I appreciate how much you've supported me with Michigan Girl, and I'm so excited to also invite you to read my Substack newsletter. ❤️ The cost is $5 a month or $45 for the year. Again, there is a free version, and I hope you'll come along for a bit of reading one way or the other!
